During the peak of the pandemic, Kings County Tennis League stepped up when our students’ families asked us for support and options to provide their active children with something constructive to do while self-quarantining.
Thanks to our incredible network of donors, sponsors, and organizational partners, the 2020 KCTL Cares campaign was our most successful fundraiser ever!
We funded transitioning tennis programs online, delivering 160 bags of groceries and essential goods to families, launching a student-volunteer mentorship program, and safely returning students to the tennis courts for private and semi-private lessons.
When asked how KCTL can continue to help in 2021, families told us their children are burned out from too much screen time, losing their interpersonal skills, and miss playing with their friends.
Once again, Kings County Tennis League is ready to step up. We will:
Expand our spring/summer season to include more small group tennis lessons so students can enjoy safely and socially playing with their friends again;
Boost efforts to increase student enrollment from NYCHA communities throughout Brooklyn; and,
Grow the Buddy Program matching students with volunteer mentors.
The KCTL Cares 2.0 campaign will secure unrestricted funding to sponsor students through these expanded spring and summer 2021 programs.
As adults, we know how real Zoom fatigue is and how tough it is to not visit friends. Imagine being a child going through those same struggles. Then imagine being that child’s parent.
With support from KCTL leadership and donor networks, the KCTL Cares 2.0 campaign will give students the chance to be a playful kid again.
